Specials

Role in the inclusive media minds Network
As a consultant and facilitator at inclusive media minds, I specialize in anti-discrimination work, focusing on fostering equity and inclusion within the media landscape. I collaborate with teams to build discrimination-sensitive environments and help shape narratives that genuinely reflect the diversity of society.

Personal Positioning

I identify as a cisgender woman, heteronomative, abled-bodied. Born in Kampala, Uganda, I spent part of my childhood in Nairobi, Kenya. My experiences as a journalist at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation exposed me to challenges like sexism and the glass ceiling, deepening my commitment to advocating for women's rights and empowerment. I am passionate about issues of social injustice, specifically in terms of racism, gender, and class. I live with my family in Hamburg and enjoy reading contemporary and historical fiction.

Educational Background:
I hold a PhD in Media Science from Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, where I researched "The use of new media by Ghanaian women to negotiate identity and belonging in Hamburg and London." I also earned an MA in Journalism and Media through the Erasmus Mundus program at Aarhus University (Denmark) and Universität Hamburg (Germany).

Media Production and Direction:
In 2010, I directed and produced five films highlighting the transformative power of sports for youth in Kampala's slums, which were broadcast by the BBC.

Gender Mainstreaming in Media:
In 2018, I led research on gender mainstreaming in media with the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT).

Academia and Teaching:
I have lectured on intercultural and cross-cultural communication at Universität Hamburg, led courses on gender and media, and published academic work, including "New media, diasporic identity, and social exclusion."

DEIB Training Facilitation:
I bring extensive experience in designing and delivering impactful Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) training sessions that address systemic biases and promote inclusion.
